Greetings!
As predicted, yesterday was spent flying from Budapest, Hungary to Sofia, Bulgaria. Small plane, across lots of countryside towns, and time in the airport in Belgrade, Serbia. Because we never really experienced Serbia, Pat is still adamant that it won't go on our "countries visited" list. Just like Kartoum/ Sudan, Dubai,/UAE, and Doha/Quatar.
Our group is forming, and we'll have our first official Welcome meal together tomorrow (Monday). Today, our guide (Joe) led most of us through a city tour ending at the
National Ethnographic Museum and the
National Art Museum. Pat and I then chose to tour the
National Archeology Museum, where most of the photos in the album were taken.
Of all the museums we visited today, it won't be a surprise to anyone who knows our travels into the past to learn that the Archeology Museum was our favorite. The Treasure Rooms, and the large main room that showcases works from the last fifty thousand years, was spectacular. Especially full were the displays that present the finds from
Thrace, the particular area just east of where we are - to the Black Sea. Such a large collection of material from the 6th to 4th Millenium, BC (8,000 years ago).
We had lunch at the Art Museum Restaurant (great salads), and walked back down the huge pedestrian artery (Vitosha Avenue) through the city center to our
hotel.
